The Honda Cub: Small Bike Big Adventures

On my latest trip between Danang and Hanoi this was my favorite section of the journey. Comical that most travelers miss this section of perfection to see the very average Hai Van Pass.

This sets the rider up for a deserted section that goes very close to the Laos border which is parallel to the Hai Van Pass. The road is a double paved highway and in incredible condition. Empty to the point that is possible to not see a another vehicle on the road for the entire journey.

The best overall motorbike riding in Vietnam

The towns and villages are great to watch on this section with the football and volley ball fields being next to the road.

Use the QL14 G to connect the Ho Chi Minh Road to Danang. Don’t bother with the Ql14 B which looks like it may provide some extra Ho Chi Minh Road gold. Unfortunately the Ql14B is rather tedious which leaves the Ql14 G as the correct coastal and mountain connector.

It’s time to ride back into Arizona to see one of the least visited National Monuments. Talking to local Native Indians they think it’s because the road is dead a lot of visitors simply don’t think it’s worth the trip up and back…let me tell you it is, IT REALLY IS!!!

The alternative to the Hai Van Pass

  • Lake Tegernsee sparkles in the sun
  • Traditionally served in extra-large mugs
  • Equipment dries on the neighboring pasture fence

Head up the paved road some 27km from Chinle to where it ends, make the left turn, and follow this paved road to the end and find a place to park. Now it’s time to walk a few hundred meters around a corner and if possible be there an hour or two before sunset for the most spectacular light.

This is one of the highest points of the ride, best to visit in the early afternoon to allow you time to get further east and slight lower in elevation.

Get to Route 160 and in Kayenta fill up with fuel and follow the Route 163 towards Monument Valley. Opinions differ in this area if entering the park or looking from a distance offers the best view of this iconic area. Personally, I prefer the long distance iconic view 20km past the AZ/ UT Stateline

I bought a set of cylinder guards for my R1200R from them online. Their price was lowest and I got the bars in a short time. Seems like an honest, efficient dealer to me.
